Once upon a time there was a great king called king Oga in Wotu kingdom.This king was brave ,bold and strict that makes his people follows all his instructions especially women.Women were not having voice and chance to make decision in Wotu kingdom.This kingdom was full of customs and tradition. It was a lovely kingdom full of good things but one of the nightmares that was hunting the women was a festival called ”TWATIA” which literally means the cutting of female genitals.
TWATIA was a festival for female young adolescent that have reached the age of 15. This festival was done anually in king Oga’s palace by an old lady by using sharp tools such as knife,blade ect to cut the female genitals.People in Wotu kingdom believes that cutting the female genitals will help females to stay chaste and pure till they reached their marital stage.This practices causes a lot of harm to females. Some lost their lives in this process because of the excess bleeding. Women complained to stop this festival but king Oga insisted not stop this festival because it was passed on to them by their ancestors and without it no woman was allowed to marry without the cutting.
As times passed by, king Oga passed away. His son Oya inherited his father. Oya was someone who was having sympathy on people especially on women.When he was young, he observed during festival when his female friends were crying and suffering because of the cutting. He even observed his sister who fainted and died in a pool of blood because of this act .Because of this reason he decided to change this festival to save the lives of women in the kingdom. King Oya stood boldly to change this act but was opposed by the old people in the kingdom claiming it was a taboo.
One day, people in Wotu kingdom accepted to change this festival.King Oya replaced this festival by given a handsome prices to young women who were able to stay chaste till marriage.And also ordered parents to guide thier children to stay chaste.King Oya became a very great king due to his compassion for women in the Wotu kingdom. At last women became happy and was free from pains because the Twatia festival was no more.The end.
