Title: Abuse and violence Against Women and Girls Living in Regions Affected by Armed Conflict in Eastern DR Congo.

Name: François Kasereka Kamate

Country: DR Congo

Age: 27

Sex: Male

Overview

It is now common knowledge that the DR Congo has been plunged into a deep and multifaceted crisis for several decades. The eastern part is particularly affected due to the increased activism of local and foreign armed groups. And in this context of armed conflicts and humanitarian crisis, women and girls suffer physical and moral abuse on a daily basis including female genital mutilation. At the same time, they are not informed of their rights to bodily autonomy and physical integrity. Thus, I took on the challenge of helping them to know their fundamental rights, in particular with the principle of physical integrity, and during this time, we are raising awareness among other members of local communities, in particular the authorities and even very local and foreign armed groups active in the region, on respect for human dignity and the rights to bodily autonomy for everyone but especially for women and young girls.

Short Bio

Kasereka Kamate François is a young social change activist based in eastern DR Congo. Proactive and working in the youth space for nearly 5 years, he also campaigns for the protection and defense of the rights of women and young girls living in rural areas and in the grip of armed conflicts in DR Congo. He aspires to have a world of peace and solidarity where human dignity is respected and where young people unlock their potential in a preserved environment. Thus, he is one of the young volunteers within the organization Amana-Institute ASBL, a socio-cultural movement of young volunteers working in the promotion of the culture of peace and the development of grassroots communities in DR Congo.
